Member-only story
Wasn’t it strange?
You, floating above the earth
Higher than any human has ever been.
In orbit, untethered,
Beyond atmosphere and gravity.
Yet, your brilliance occluded the galaxies.
In the refracted sunlight of your greatest triumph
I saw not a single star.
Visible were the two objects I already knew completely,
Earth and Man.
So, forgive me, Astronaut, I edited your photograph,
Layered the Milky Way over the blackness.
Not alone in the void, now quite the opposite,
You are one humble diamond
In the shimmering infinity.
