Moon-set

Today

I awake in darkness, early

Brilliant moonlight

Glowing silver

On the trees outside

I take my camera

Into the cold

Predawn

Wait

But the moon refuses to fall

I won’t see the elusive image

Split-second

As it sits atop

The volcano crest.

Sometimes

There is more beauty

In what I don’t see.

The best image

Is always the one

I didn’t take.

The picture I paint

In my mind

Is more beautiful

Than a photograph

Could ever be.
