Empty Cages

Remember the day

We had had enough

Stormed out

Took flight

The fury of our wings

Blackened the sky

For an instant

Then all was light

We were Light

Air

Wind

Remember the day we remembered

And returned?

We could not be free

If our brothers and sisters

Were captive.

Cages hung,

Swung

Our ears strained

Searching

For cries of the contained

We stole the keys

We broke them free

All took wing

We ascended

Leading captives in the train.

The un-caged birds,

You should have heard them sing.
