Christmas Poem
I read about the prince of peace
while morning news screams
school shootings
suicides
wanted woman in a silver car
vehicle submerged in a lake, time of accident unknown
The weatherman says
“It’s going to be a good day ahead.”
Really?
If there is a prince of peace,
he must also be
prince of weary travelers,
red-eyed in hotel lobbies. . .
prince of trailer parks. . .
express Oncology centers. . .
prince of cigarettes and fishing lakes. . .
unseen sunrises. . .
squirrels and sandpipers. . .
state troopers. . .
crosswalks and parking lots. . .
retirement communities. . .
inflatable Santa’s and bass boats. . .
scripture says
the government will be upon his shoulders —
logic says
these same shoulders were disjointed in the last gasps for breath
on the lynching tree
Will those shoulders straighten in resurrection?
Are they strong enough to roll our stones away?
